New DVD for parents-to-be
The advice-packed tour gives pregnant mothers and their partners information on all aspects of visiting the unit. It is now available on this website and on DVD.
The virtual tour has replaced ward tours, where expecting parents visited the hospital, in order to help infection control and give privacy to patients.
Jillian Lawrence, midwife specialist, said: “By having a virtual tour it reduces the footfall in the hospital and so helps with infection control. It also increases inpatient privacy for new mums on the wards.
“The tour is a really useful tool for expecting mothers and their relatives and because it’s virtual they can watch it over and over again.”
The virtual tour includes:
> car parking hints
> how to get to the unit, what entrance to use and who will greet you
> infection control information such as how to wash hands thoroughly
> behind the scenes in delivery rooms and wards
> equipment available and hints on what to bring with you
> antenatal and postnatal information
Midwives have copies of the tour on DVD which they can loan out to parents-to-be who are unable to access the internet. Community midwives will also play the DVD as part of ante-natal education.
